The History of Saint Barbara Greek Orthodox Church
On November 30, 1972, a group of approximately fifty men and women, with strong religious convictions and beliefs, met at the Parish Center of Christ Episcopal Church on Washington Street in Toms River. Their vision became a reality on January 7, 1973 when the Greek Orthodox Community of Ocean County celebrated its first Divine Liturgy at the Chapel of the Christ Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Demetrius Constantelos serving as its interim priest.
This Greek Orthodox wedding was a dream-come-true to photograph. There was so much amazing food, laughter, emotional tears and fun dancing – it was truly a fantastic wedding experience!

Plate smashing is a Greek custom that peaked in the 60s and 70s, involving the intentional smashing of plates during celebratory occasions. While it occurs more rarely today, it continues to be seen on certain occasions, such as weddings! Plaster are more likely to be used or regular plates into large bins (like photographed at this wedding)
