The Meyer Photo + Video Group has funded a donation of athletic equipment to Spring Creek Elementary School in Provo, UT. Teacher Mrs. Singleton requested various items such as footballs, volleyballs, jump ropes, frisbees and footballs in a Donorchoose.org funding campaign for her 55 students.
She added that her Title I school has more than eighty percent of the population receiving free or reduced-price lunch. She believed that new athletic equipment would help motivate her students to be more active during recess, however, she did not have adequate funding to purchase them. The Meyer Photo + Video group also funded the cost of processing, fulfillment, labor, and materials fees charged by Donorschoose.org. ESPN matched The Meyer Photo + Video Group’s donation.
Four months ago, The Meyer Photo + Video group also donated Chromebooks to Gantner Avenue Elementary School in Elmwood Park, New Jersey. “We like to donate to various charities throughout the year, however, funding individual classroom requests is extremely rewarding,” said business owner, Ashley Meyer. “With direct donations like these, you can see the immediate impact on students.”
Mrs. Singleton believes that her students will also benefit academically, as studies have shown that the more energy students are able to expend at recess, the more successful they are at paying attention in class and retaining information. As her students are often at-risk academically, she believes they can use all the support that they can get.
